Tarah, Tim or Tom is it possible either of you could help me with the removing of the white background behind an image I'd like to place? Tim I think I remembered you asking about it in class one day. :o) Thanks much!

Can we add "troubleshooting" to this category?? I have two questions that maybe someone can help me figure out:

1. How do we log in again? I never remember what our username/passwords are.

2. When I take an image from my illustrator mock up to dreamweaver, it loses a LOT of color intensity. In dreamweaver and in my browser it just looks dull even though I'm saving it with the maximum quality. When I open the image in preview it has the original intensity. I chose really bright colors, and my website will pretty much flop if they appear this dull online. Thoughts?

Ok, here's something I discovered today. Maybe I'm way behind the times and you all know and love these Dane Cook-esque tutorials, but then again, I'm guessing we're all in the "S.S. News Laggard" boat together. Anyway, check em out for fun, quick photoshop tutorials!

Hi all -

I found this link while browsing for my own dream job. It's more focused to designers getting a job, but I think some of it is worth reading when thinking about how to design our sites. Either way, it's always a good refresher on job ap. tactics.

cheers!

Every one of these sites has something I love. What a great job you all did for us, thank you so much. I’m taking them to our Board on Friday, and we’ll have several discussions about what to do with our site, now that we have your valuable input.

Here are some specific comments I have about the sites:

https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/russell1/Westcott%20Bay/index.html?uniq=-a33g0a

I really like the set of links on this site, I think they are very informative and much better than the original, which had way too many. I’d organize them differently, put events higher in the list.

The background image suggests nature, and I love the elaborate W on the title name. I’d like to see the colors be more like those of Westcott Bay itself – forest greens, the blue of the water, green grasses.

The content on the home page – mission, 501c3, thanks – aren’t what I’d put there. I’d have more “news” stuff – what’s happening at the Island Museum of Art, what’s happening at the Sculpture Park, maybe a feature on an artist.

https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/phumphrey/WB/home.html?uniq=ilbpkk

The colors and visual appeal of this site are great. They really capture the sense of what we do. I like the arrangement of the links across the top, but I’m not sure why some of them are repeated on the right side. Also, I don’t really understand links that are “for” groups. They confuse me.

I appreciate the focus on donating on the home page! The image is great. I would put more content about what’s so cool about the Island Museum of Art and the activities at the Sculpture Park to encourage donating.

This site is dramatic and visually appealing. I love the bold image and the dark colors. But then I wonder if the artistic sense of it matches the art/nature theme of Westcott Bay Institute. Maybe that black could be dark green?

I like the general content of the homepage, focusing on donating and what our mission is about, but I’d like to see it said in fewer words.

Putting Events on the homepage is excellent. That’s what we need – a strong focus on why someone would come to the site and what they would get out of being there.

I also like the links at the top, although I don’t get the “artists” link. I’m not sure whether that’s for artists or about artists.

https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/ziegler1/Westcott%20Bay%20Website/

The title/logo of the site is beautiful. Really elegant and artistic, it matches what we do very well.

It’s interesting to see the site presented against a background of a scroll. I suppose that’s the emphasize the “art” of the mission of the Institute. I wonder if there’s an image we could use that would suggest sculpture? Most of our focus is on the sculpture park.

I like the links across the top, and I think they are good ones (although we need a “contact” link there too). The “for artists” link makes it clear that this is where prospective artists would go. I’m not sure I would click on a link that says “donate.”

The images in the middle suggest a major focus on the sculptures, but lets us know there is an Island Museum of Art, too. I’d like to see a little more news/info about what’s cool that we are doing right now on the home page.

This site really grabbed my attention, with its strong focus on the bridge and on the art of the Sculpture Park. It’s an interesting mix of the scroll suggesting art with the outdoor setting of the sculpture park.

I’d like shorter more newsy content on the homepage, and I don’t think it needs a title. Board of directors can go inside.

I love the links! So innovative and personal – support the institute, plan a visit, take a class. Very nice. And I really like the idea of an online art auction, we’ll see if we can implement that. I’m not sure we need a separate donate link.

You are quite welcome David and thank you for commenting. Do you have any advice for our aspiring web design students regarding what to include (and not include) for a professional /personal website?
