By the end of this week, you should have your interface design concepts nailed down and in electronic form so you can begin working on the XHTML/CSS and content. To help those of you who need some inspiration, here are two sites to Review for design:

Color Palettes and Background Textures

This is a nice resource for finding color palettes if you’re creatively challenged (like me), or just need some inspiration:

ColourLovers.com

If you click the little “PS” icon beside the palette, it automatically opens into Photoshop’s Swatches, so you don’t have to do any sampling with the eyedropper tool. They have a great section for seamless patterns, if you’re looking to add texture to your site’s background.

There’s also a fun design section where artsy-fartsy weirdos build stuff like Jell-O cityscapes.

Below is a listing of the sites I shared in class on Tuesday, with some additions. One of the best is the Web Design from Scratch site. It’s an excellent resource for aspiring web communicators. It’s definitely a resource to use again and again.

Remember the one of the key points from our discussion on Tuesday was to understand how web design style and convention has evolve to this point (e.g. the Web 2.0 style). And notice too how how these sites use CRAP and content to make key information/key messages prominent.

Visual Design – Web 2.0 Design Style

With the advent of “Web 2.0” new design styles have emerged. Just as I showed with the case study on Tuesday (garyengbergoutdoors.com old and new), design styles are becoming more sophisticated. Ben Hunt from Web Design from Scratch shares his perspective with a Web 2.0 Style Guide and he outlines some basic principles to consider.
