Let the Semester Begin

Welcome to Life Sciences Communication 532: Web Design for the Sciences. I am looking forward to an exciting semester. We are going to cover a lot of ground (and you’ll see there is much to cover). We will focus our energy on learning many concepts professional communicators in the web/new media industries need to know.We will talk about project planning/management (a lot), visual design, user-centered design, usability, information architecture, XHTML, CSS and more. It’s important to note that I am assuming all students taking this class have no past experience working on the web. While I know this isn’t the case for everyone, I want you to know from the start we will be begin with basic, foundational concepts and build our skills to more advanced levels throughout the semester. While I don’t expect you to have any previous web knowledge, I DO expect you to bring self-motivation and a willingness to seek answers on your own questions, a willingness to share what you discover and a level of enthusiasm expected of university students. Bring that, and we will have a great semester.
